Rusoord Old Age Home/ Rusoord Ouetehuis - Paarl

My office decided that we should give something back to the community. It is going good with our business, and we all felt the need to get involved in something....but what....so we wrestled with a few ideas naturally and finally came up with the old age home in Paarl. We did some investigating and found that some of the old ladies have not been visited by relatives/friends since the day they were "dropped"....the date could be stretching over a few years with some of them. This was sad, and we knew, this is where we would get involved in. So, what to do??

We did what we do best...have fun!!!! we did a concert for them in 2008 . We "sang" them old Afrikaans/English songs, Ge Korsten, Sonja Herholdt, Bles Bridges etc. We did a few dances and the loved it...we received little notes afterwards to thank us. So in 2009....we did it again...bigger and better!!!! And this year, they were queing in front of the door hours before!! in 2009 we had a different strategy..we gave them the songs from different eras...starting in the 1930's, doing the dances/singing the songs relevant to that specific era. we had the wigs , costumes, and definitely the right attitude!!! The ladies thanked us so beautifully,...not knowing that doing the concert for them probably had more an effect on us, than it did on them!! It took hard work, every morning from 7-8, practicing...it was SO worth it...wonder what next year's theme will be??.....
